Bratäpfel (Baked Apple)


Ingredients

  • 4 Apples (either red or green, but preferably tart)

  • 50g Flaked Almonds

  • 50g Butter

  • 2 tablespoons Brown Sugar

  • ½ teaspoon Cinnamon

  • Sultanas or Raisins

Method

  1. Preheat oven to 200 degrees, or 180 fan-forced.

  2. Toast the flaked almonds in a dry pan until golden.

  3. Rinse and core the apples, leaving a generous space in the centre of each one.

  4. Place the cored apples in a baking tray.

  5. Combine the butter with 2 tablespoons of brown sugar, ½ teaspoon cinnamon and a few sultanas.

  6. Fold the flaked almonds into this mixture.

  7. Fill the centre of the apples with the almond mixture.

  8. Optional: Pour a small amount of orange or lemon juice over the apples.

  9. Bake for approx. 25 min, until the apple skins burst and turn golden.

  10. Cool slightly and serve with a scoop of vanilla ice-cream.
