Sugar-free Chocolate Banana Bread


¾ cup almond flour

¾ cup buckwheat flour

½ cup tapioca starch (or Arrowroot)

1/3 cup cacao powder

2 tsp baking powder

1 tsp bi-carbonate of soda

1½ tsp cinnamon

½ tsp mixed spice (optional)

3 large (or 4 medium) bananas (use ripe or overripe bananas as this is the only sweetener!)

2 eggs (or 2 chia or flax eggs for a vegan alternative)

2 tbsp coconut oil

½ tsp vanilla extract (optional)


  1. Preheat oven to 180 degrees.

  2. Mix all dry ingredients thoroughly.

  3. Beat bananas and eggs together.

  4. Add coconut oil and vanilla extract to wet mixture.

  5. Incorporate wet ingredients into the dry mixture and turn batter into a lined loaf tin.

  6. Bake for 25 min before covering loaf with alfoil (so that the chocolate doesn’t burn!)

  7. Bake for a further 15-20 min until loaf springs back to the touch.

Enjoy plain, toasted or slathered in your favourite nut butter!
